High Pressure Treatment Effect on Physicochemical and Nutritional Properties of Fluid Foods During Storage: A Review
2012
Abstract: Consumers demand foods that are easy to consume and that are of high nutritional and sensory quality. Therefore, they appreciate the similarity of minimally processed products to fresh products. In recent years, the food industry has shown increased interest in nonthermal preservation technologies, because they provide products of proven quality and can be an alternative to traditional thermal methods, thus increasing added value. This review examines the effects of high pressure processing (HPP) on the nutritional and physicochemical parameters of fluid foods. While some general trends can be observed, the effects of HPP differ not only according to treatment intensity, but also…
AS14-02 - Common and distinct treatment elements in psychotherapies for borderline personality disorder
2012
Introduction Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is defined as “a pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, affects, and marked impulsivity” (DSM-IV-TR; APA, 2000). These very characteristics make it difficult to establish firm therapeutic relationships and keep patients in treatment. In recent decades, a number of new psychotherapeutic approaches have been developed in order to meet these specific challenges and demands. To date, there is evidence of efficacy for various treatments, as data of a recent systematic review and meta-analysis of our working group indicate. Objectives To give an overview of all psychotherapeutic treatments investigated in ran…
Effective childhood cancer treatment: The impact of large scale clinical trials in Germany and Austria
2013
In Germany and Austria, more than 90% of pediatric cancer patients are enrolled into nationwide disease-specific first-line clinical trials or interim registries. Essential components are a pediatric cancer registry and centralized reference laboratories, imaging review, and tumor board assistance. The five-year overall survival rate in countries where such infrastructures are established has improved from 80% since 1995. Today, treatment intensity is tailored to the individual patient's risk to provide the highest chances of survival while minimizing deleterious late effects. Multicenter clinical trials are internationalized and serve as platforms for further improvements by novel drugs an…
The impact of periodic interviews on unemployment duration : Evidence from the 2017 Finnish reform
2023
In 2017, a Finnish policy reform intensified the Public Employment Services' practice of periodically interviewing unemployed jobseekers. This study used high-quality administrative data to analyse the effect of interviews on unemployment duration. We used a difference-in-differences approach that exploited regional variations in treatment intensity. Our results show that a 10 percentage point increase in interview probability increased the monthly hazard rate of employment by 3.1 per cent, with the effect being strongest among jobseekers aged 25–34 and jobseekers with a low education level. Also, our results demonstrate a strong effect on participation in active labour market programmes. p…
